It's began with a freestyle
Hands down by a mile freestyling will always be my favourite style of any battle/competition. Fuck a dance battle or a maths quiz. Vocal musical poetic freestyling is what its about.
I miss all the wordplay, comedy, knowledge, rhythem social politics... ARGH
And also the breakdown of the beat. Back in the day when Rap and Hip-Hop first came out when Rappers use to freestyle it was fresh! and I mean literally. The sound behind the voice would only be a DJ scratching on the decks or a beatboxer spitting out the beat. (Dougie Fresh ect..).
